“Fuller House,” a spin-off series to the original “Full House” television show, aired February 26 on Netflix.
Most of the beloved characters everyone came to know and love returned for season one of the Netflix original.
This new show is rated TV-G and was created by Jeff Franklin. Carly Rae Jepsen sings the old theme song to the show.
The cast includes Candace Cameron Bure reprising the role of D.J. Tanner-Fuller, her three sons, Jackson Fuller (Michael Campion), Max Fuller (by Elias Harger) and twins Dashiell and Fox Messitt staring as Tommy Fuller Jr. Jodie Sweetin returns to her role of Stephanie Tanner and D.J.’s best friend, Kimmy Gibbler (played by Andrea Barber) who is no longer the annoying neighbor, joined by her daughter Ramona Gibbler (Soni Bringas) comprises the entire main cast. Jesse and Becky Katsopolis (John Stamos and Lori Loughlin, respectively), Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier) and the Katsopolis twins Nicky and Alex (Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit) all joined the cast for at least first episode.
The Olsen twins (who played Michelle, D.J. and Stephanie’s little sister) declined to play the role of Michelle Tanner in the series premiere. There is no word on whether or not they will join the cast in a future season.
“Fuller House” is centered on D.J, Stephanie, and Kimmy. Stephanie and Kimmy move in with D.J. in the Tanner’s old house to help raise her boys and make things easier for her. Kimmy, separated from her husband Fernando (Juan Pablo Di Pace) is overjoyed to move into the Tanner household. A recent widow, D.J. works as a veterinarian. Her husband Tommy died, similar to her father’s story whose wife died. He was a firefighter as shown to viewers in season one. Steve Hale, D.J.’s high school boyfriend, played by Scott Weigner, also joins the cast as he competes for D.J.’s attention and love with her co-worker Matt Harmon (John Brotherton).
Similar to “Full House,” there are funny clips in the show including the scene where the cast stared into the camera when Michelle Tanner’s name was mentioned and also throwback videos in flashback scenes.
In my opinion, the producers made a great comeback with this spinoff. I really enjoyed watching the original cast show how their personalities changed during adulthood. My favorite part is the opening theme song because the original theme song was kept for the spinoff. Also, the throwback pictures of D.J., Stephanie and Kimmy in the theme were displayed in a way for Full House viewers to recollect the memories of the characters they knew and loved. My favorite episode is the first episode, “Our Very First Show, Again,” because the entire family household from Full House (with exception to the Olsen twins) joined the new cast for the first show which brought throwback and ecstatic feelings when I first watched it.
Netflix does not show their viewer ratings and comments but there have been mixed feelings about the new spin-off. Nevertheless, a second season will be on Netflix soon and more “Full House” characters will be on the show again to help this “fuller” household.
