Fourth of July is thought of for its food, fireworks, grilling, and iconic American colors. Like Canada Day or any other independence, the United States goes all out! Most importantly, being with family and friends on this summer holiday makes it even better! With the festivities just around the corner, brush up on these four debunked facts before the holiday!

1. America did not declare independence or even sign the Declaration of Independence on the fourth! The official vote for independence by the Continental Congress took place on the second and was published in the newspapers on the fourth. The Declaration took an entire month for all fifty-six delegates to sign the document. Only the famous John Hancock signed his name on July fourth.
2. Initially, a lot of greenery represented the holiday, not red, white, and blue. Before firework usage, cannons were used.
3. Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the fourth of July within hours of each other!
4. Betsy Ross made the first American flag but the flag we see today was created by Robert G. Heft, high school student who designed it for a project! Imagine that, having high school project become a national symbol, talk about applying things to your life!
