“Archie” Comics on Television

CW recently announced that the network will be making a new series based on the “Archie” comics called “Riverdale.” Set in modern time, this new show will be out this fall. It will be featuring all of the fun characters everyone knows and loves: Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.

The characters will be high school sophomores. The new series will be different from the comics because Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones are former best friends. This new twist is going to make such a difference in the plot and overall show sequence.

On the Internet, there are teasers of “Riverdale” revealing an Archie with greater muscle mass, a stressed-out Betty, a scandal-stricken Veronica and a new adversity Jughead must overcome. This will be a one hour drama, so far.

The number of seasons is not yet known, but seven characters have been cast. Archie will be played by KJ Apa, Josie by Ashleigh Murray, and Fred Andrews will be played by Luke Perry. Camila Mendes will be playing the role of Veronica Lodge and Cheryl Blossom will be played Madelaine Petsch. Playing the role of Betty Cooper will be Lili Reinhart and Jughead Jones will be played by Cole Sprouse. On Twitter, Sprouse shared with fans his new role after a five-year break from acting.

Three additional characters recently were cast and will be recurring characters if the show is renewed for more seasons. Ross Butler will play the role of Reggie Mantle, Dilton Doiley is cast by Daniel Yang, and Cody Kearsley landed the role of Moose Mason. The TV producer for the series is Greg Berlanti, the Archie Comics’ chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is penning the pilot, and both men along with Sarah Schecter and Jon Goldwater will serve as executive producers.
